Canclude

How scoring works

Every canclusion runs through the same rubric. Five criteria, integer sub-scores from 0 to 10, weighted into a single decimal overall.

The criteria

Each criterion is judged independently on a 0–10 integer scale. Anchors describe what each level means.

Containment

25%

How much of the crush stays within the can's original top footprint.

  • 10Crush is fully within the original circular footprint. No spread.
  • 7-9Minor spread, less than ~20% beyond original diameter on any side.
  • 4-6Moderate spread, 20–40% beyond original.
  • 1-3Major spread, torn or splayed metal well beyond original.
  • 0Crush is wider than tall — flattened sideways rather than down.

Seal

20%

Whether the crush closed the can's mouth and drinking aperture.

  • 10Mouth fully closed; no opening visible.
  • 7-9Mostly closed; small gap or pinhole visible.
  • 4-6Partial closure; opening reduced but clearly present.
  • 1-3Mouth largely open.
  • 0Mouth fully open; no compression at the top.

Symmetry

20%

Evenness of the crush around the can's central vertical axis.

  • 10Radially symmetric; halves mirror each other.
  • 7-9Mostly symmetric; minor lopsidedness.
  • 4-6Visible asymmetry; one side notably more crushed than the other.
  • 1-3Strongly asymmetric or leaning hard to one side.
  • 0Crumpled chaotically with no discernible axis.

Flatness

20%

How thoroughly the can has been compressed downward, evaluated against the practical limit of compression while keeping the cylinder contained. A pancake achieved by splaying outward is not flatness — that's a containment failure scored elsewhere.

  • 10Compressed to the contained limit. A thin band of preserved sidewall remains visible — that's the optimum for a clean crush, not pancake-flat.
  • 7-9Heavily compressed; clearly worked; modest room to compress further without breaking containment.
  • 4-6Moderately compressed; meaningful work done but more compression was achievable within containment.
  • 1-3Lightly crushed; most original height remains.
  • 0No meaningful compression.

Aesthetic

15%

Overall craft and visual pleasingness — the model's judgment.

  • 10Beautiful, intentional, satisfying form.
  • 7-9Nice looking; minor blemishes.
  • 4-6Unremarkable.
  • 1-3Ugly, jagged, or sloppy.
  • 0Mangled beyond aesthetic merit.

The math

Your overall is a weighted average of the sub-scores, rounded to one decimal place (half-up). The same photo always produces the same score: we cache by the image's pixel hash, scoped to your account or session.
